Pinecrest was established as a municipality on March 12, 1996 and is one of the 34 local governments in Miami-Dade County. With a population of approximately 18,388 people (as of the 2020 Census), Pinecrest is located south of Miami's downtown and the Miami International Airport. The area spans eight square miles and is widely regarded as one of the most picturesque residential neighborhoods in South Florida.

Pinecrest has gained recognition on a national level as a "Tree City USA," a "Playful City USA," and a "Community of Respect." In 2011, the South Florida Business Journal ranked Pinecrest as one of the top ten places in Florida for its high quality of life.

The Village of Pinecrest operates under a Council-Manager form of government, with a five-member Village Council serving as the governing body. The Pinecrest Municipal Center, which serves as the government headquarters, is located at 12645 Pinecrest Parkway on US 1. The regular business hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. from Monday to Friday. The Police Station, on the other hand, is accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
